The origins of Rezé

Rezé is a town located in the Loire-Atlantique department, in the Pays de la Loire region, in western France. It is close to the city of Nantes, from which it is separated by the Loire.
The history of Rezé dates back to antiquity. It was an important port during the time of the Roman Empire, known as Ratiatum. The port served as a link between the sea and the interior, and Ratiatum was an important trading center for the Romans. Remains from that time can still be seen today, such as the Portus Ratiatus, which is a Roman archaeological complex.
In the Middle Ages, Rezé continued to prosper, thanks in particular to the salt industry and during the modern period, thanks to the construction of numerous mansions and castles.
In the 20th century, Rezé experienced rapid growth. It was at this time that modern neighborhoods such as the Trentemoult district were built. Trentemoult is today famous for its colorful houses and narrow streets, which give the neighborhood a unique atmosphere.
